We hope you all enjoyed your holiday break and are returning to school refreshed. Thanks to our health and hygeine team, you will know today whether you have a head lice problem in your child's classroom. We hope you don't, which is why Northshore PTA takes an offensive approach to this dreaded problem. Our next general meeting will be coming up on Thursday Jan 21 at 6:30 pm in the Lake Hills media center. If you have an allocation request, please get it turned in to the board as soon as possible.

Holiday Gift Shop

Thank you very, very much to all the volunteers who came to make this year's holiday gift shop the smoothest event yet. Thanks to Betsy James, Kelly Kenney, Pat & Shelley Cannon, Lori Jhamb, Amy Herring, Annel Oltof and all the parents who came down with their childrens room. It was great and the kids all had fun. Thanks also to the teachers for working with us on the scheduling.

The Christmas concert on Friday was a great way to wrap up the 2009. Now we can all bake cookies with our cookie dough and wrap up our Lake Hills spirit wear to give as gifts. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2010!

All Lake Hills Logo wear order forms are due this Monday November 23.
Also, Cookie Dough order forms are due Tuesday December 1.
A little later in the month, Northshore PTA will once again be sponsoring the Holiday Gift Shop event. This year's big shopping day will be Wednesday December 16. Envelopes will come home in backpacks on Monday to help with the planning process. This fun Christmas event will need a few more elves to help it run smoothly. If you are interested, please contact Becky Huttenga, rlhut@sbcglobal.net. Also, check back here on the blog soon as we will be posting pictures of our most recent assembly, Nature's Kennel Sled Dogs. It was a lot of fun! Thanksgiving Baskets

Our Thanksgiving Basket committee has been working hard to fill many baskets for families from Lake Hills school. Be sure to send in your classrooms assigned contributions so that each basket has everything a family could want for a super turkey dinner. Cash donations are also accepted and appreciated. Fall Fundraiser Product Pickup

Autumnfest a Big Success!

Kids and parents alike had a great time at 2009 Autumnfest. The weather cooperated nicely and the committee put on a great event with yummy hot dogs, cider, donuts, pie, crafts, face painting and much more! We are fortunate to have such a wonderful school family to celebrate with! Thanks to all who attended and helped put on the event ~ including all our generous donors, like Fat Chix Coffee Cantina, Sara Lee and many more!

It is hard to believe that it is time once again to welcome fall with our Annual Autumnfest family event - hot dogs and hayrides, face painting and family, bookfair and buddies. Please follow the link for more info on this event set for Thursday, Oct. 1 from 5:30-7:30. There is a volunteer sign up sheet at the bottom of this flyer. This event, like all others in our school, requires parent volunteers for success. If you feel you could work one hour of the event and spend the other hour enjoying the event with your family, or perhaps come a little early for set up or stay a little later for clean up, please print the volunteer sheet and respond. Thank you so much for being willing to help. It will be great fun.

Welcome back to school!

Thanks to the volunteers who conducted the ever important post-break head-checks. We have an exciting assembly scheduled for this Tuesday at 1:15. Jamie from the Outdoor Discovery Center will be giving a presentation then some Touch Time for the kids and animals. Plans are under way for our annual Sweetheart Dance scheduled for February 12 and order forms went home for Little Caesar's Pizza Kits - these are a very good deal and great to have in the freezer for busy (or lazy!) nights. Our next general meeting is planned for January 15 at 6:30 pm.

In the trenches

It ain't pretty, but it does the job!! I am, of course, referring to the periodic head checks for lice that Northshore PTA performs. One will take place tomorrow, Monday Dec. 1 if enough volunteers can help. This check is done after every extended break to keep lice cases to a minimum at Lake Hills school. The next check will be Monday January 5. If you can assist with this one, your help would be greatly appreciated. Lice can affect any child and it is a lot of work to eradicate, so prevention is the best way. Prevention requires the help of volunteers. Please mark your calendars to help with this very important PTA function.

Christmas Reminders:

T-shirts and Cookie Dough order forms are due DEC 1ST!!

Holiday Gift Shop will be held Wednesday, December 17. For those new to our school family, this event allows children to shop for gifts for the special people (and pets!) in their lives all on their own. An envelope is sent home so that parents can help the kids decide who to buy for and how much to spend. Parents put money in the envelope and the kids come home with gifts already wrapped for extra secrecy!! At this point, Santa's schedule still looks like he will be able to make it for pictures that day, too! We would love to have plenty of happy elf-parents available to assist the shoppers, so if you can help out for part or all of the day, contact Becky Huttenga at 616.970.0679 or rlhut@sbcglobal.net.

THE PTA FOOD DRIVE provided many local families with Thanksgiving baskets this year. The Spring Lake Township and Ferrysburg Fire Departments along with Ottawa County Sheriff helped distribute nearly 60 food baskets.

Fall Updates

Hello everyone!

It has been a very busy autumn so far! We had a very successful bookfair. Many thanks to Tammy Davison, Jacque Hoffman, Nikki Hubert and all of the dependable volunteers who worked the event. Autumnfest this year was also a great event despite the not so great weather! Thank you Chelsie, Shannon and your many wet helpers!

This Friday all the product you sold for Fall Fundraiser will arrive at the school and be available for pick up from 3:30 til 6 pm. Remember, you must pay in full in order to pick it up!

Before you know it, Thanksgiving will be upon us, so watch the backpacks for ways you can help with our Thanksgiving Baskets. Remember, these baskets go directly to Lake Hills families, and with the economy this year, the need will be greater than ever. If you have questions or have a great idea for corporate donors, contact Annel Oltof.

If you have an allocation request, please remember to fill out the form available in the office and get it in the PTA box no later than Nov. 7 so that your request can be reviewed.

Sept 22: Fall Fundraiser order forms are due!
Sept 29 - Oct 3: Fall Bookfair - be sure to stop in and shop, and volunteer if you have time!
Oct 2 - Autumnfest from 5:30 - 7:30. This event is always great family fun and a perfect social mixer for our school family.

If you didnt' make it to the September meeting, we kicked off the year with some much needed allocations for the school. More on that in a later post.

treasurer has switched her children to another school district.
We need to find someone to fill
the role of treasurer for Northshore PTA as soon as possible. The past
treasurer will be happy to walk you through the responsibilites

of treasurer is critically important to any PTA and needs to be filled.

We hope everyone had a great time at the ice cream social! That was a hot night so the ice cream really hit the spot. Our Fall Fundraiser kicked off today and we hope all our families can participate in some way. The first Northshore PTA meeting will be held Thursday Sept 18 which is also our first Dominoes Pizza night. We hope to see many old and new friends at the meeting. Fall Bookfair and Autumnfest are right around the corner. If you would like to volunteer for either of those events, please contact Tammy Davison and Chelsie Weigle, respectively.

Hello again -
Just a few reminders from the office of the treasurer. The school year is quickly drawing to a close and that means no more backpack express!! So, if you are still in need of reimbursements or allocations that were approved, please get them to me as soon as possible. The fiscal year for NSPTA ends on June 30 and I would like all of this year's business completed before I hand the reins over to Jennifer.

We hope you all enjoyed Spring Fling. Thanks to Matt, Jodi and all their helpers for putting on the event in grand style, even in the face of a little adversity!!

Volunteer Appreciation Awards to be Presented at Spring Fling

Northshore PTA wants to formally recognize individuals that have given their time, talents and resources to help our students receive an exceptional learning experience at Lake Hills. Please nominate the volunteers who stand out in your mind as potential recipients of these awards. Below please find the awards that will be given. Of course, we are open to any other suggestions you may have as people come to mind.

Please take a moment to fill in at least a few names for the categories provided (or create your own category) and reply back via e-mail with your ideas.

We would like to present the awards during the Spring Fling event next week Thursday evening, so please reply by Tuesday, May 20th at the latest.

Suggested Award Categories:
• The Unsung Hero (always behind the scenes, working quietly to get things done)
• The Rising Star (they took on new challenges and proved we can expect great things from them)
• Volunteer of the Year (the name speaks for itself)
• The "Go To" Award (who we go to when we're in a bind)
• The Encourager (Always nudging others to keep going)
• The Innovator (new ideas flow like a river)
• The Atlas Award (this person knows everything!)
• The Summit Award (when others would have given up, this person gives the extra push needed to reach the top )
